i tried this one for fathers day. it was great. my first soup/chowder! my recommendation would be to have all your items ready, its a recipe that seems to need stuff added at a certain point. i didnt have the sweet potato peeled or chopped when the first stuff was very ready. i was affraid i would burn it so moved from heat then put back to get back to heat... on and on so it ended up taking a lot longer than suggested. but remarkably came out well! another thing was when adding the jiffy/milk mix, i got distracted so it started to cook globs since i didnt stir it while adding. i was able to stir it down, but i would make sure to stir well whilst adding next time. even if it did get lumpy it was like dumplings adding another texture and still yummy. so in the end, even if your a bit disorganized like me, you can make a great, tasty, full of goodness chowder you can feel proud of yourself for!

The recipe specifically calls for the mix as a thickener and to add extra corn flavor. It is an interesting question. If you happen to try corn meal let us know how it works out. Maybe try grinding it first in a blender as mixes are not as course.
